Contrary to conventional thought, much of the noise from an album is a result of organic and inorganic contaminants in the grooves and not actual scratches.
The iSonic UltraSonic Record cleaning machine operates at 35KHz, the optimal frequency for vinyl album cleaning. UltraSonic vibration, through a process called cavitation, frees the contaminants from deep in the grooves, as well as the surface, and it happens without any abrasive materials touching your valuable and precious vinyl. I think my album is damaged. Will iSonic work on my damaged album? Unfortunately, groove damage is irreversible. However, while you may hear pops and crackles on your albums, that isn't necessarily a sign of groove damage. Often, those pops and crackles are merely contaminated grooves. iSonic record cleaning machines remove noise that is caused by organic and inorganic contaminants and improve the sonic presentation of the record. Sometimes, though, there is some damage to the groove. Ultimately, iSonic takes the remaining musical life that is left in your copy and makes it sound as good as it possibly can sound. Regardless of the condition of your album, after an UltraSonic cleaning, and provided your album isn't damaged to the point of unplayability, your stylus will track and modulate in the groove much better (reduced stylus jitter). You'll find the groove contains more musical information in the form of additional details, sharper transients, extended decays, space and definition around all instruments, as well as a more defined soundstage. The music becomes more lifelike, exciting, and immersive. |

BRAND NEW VINYL
You may be wondering if there is any point in cleaning brand new vinyl. Wonder no longer. There is very good reason to clean brand new vinyl. When a vinyl record is pressed using heat and high pressure, the soft waxy and oily plasticizer compounds that are added to the base PVC polymer leave a layer on the surface of the record. This layer obscures micro-details of the groove. As you can imagine, any waxy or oily substance is going to be a magnet for dust, creating a place for various organic and inorganic contaminants to get lodged in the groove. Anything in the groove is going to be detrimental to the life of your albums, increasing wear and tear. You might consider brand new to be the optimal time to clean your albums.
Conventional and Unconventional Cleaning Methods
Conventional cleaning methods tend to involve a great deal of contact with outer parts of your album grooves. Brushes, while they are often good at removing dirt and dust from the surface of the album, they can tend to push dirt and dust deeper into the groove rather than lifting it off. Wet felt brushes can be more effective, however, if you don't lift the dust and dirt off the album, you're potentially creating mud to be forced downward into the groove. Several years of this has its affects on the performance of your vinyl. UltraSonic cleaning frees that dust and dirt from deep in your grooves.
There are many unconventional vinyl cleaning methods out there, such as wood glue. With these non-UltraSonic methods you’re either inviting an array of trouble, or simply not getting a thorough cleaning. With UltraSonic cleaning, you’re not only getting a clean album, you’re protecting and maintaining your valuable investment in your vinyl collection.
